Reading the sky like a herder

A Frontiersman with a white horse in a golden valley

Herders read the peaks before they read a phone. A cap of cloud that builds and stays means the afternoon will turn. A clear dawn with the wind already hard usually holds.

We still ride. We choose the valley, the hour we leave, and whether the tarp goes up before the horses are unsaddled.
